O Ministério de Minas e Energia (MME) e o Centro de Pesquisas de Energia Elétrica (Cepel) celebraram, no dia 06 de janeiro, convênio de cooperação para estudar locais para implementação de novas usinas nucleares no Brasil. O aumento da participação da fonte termonuclear na matriz energética brasileira é importante para reduzir os impactos das crises hídricas na geração de energia elétrica.
A cooperação entre MME e Cepel deverá direcionar para a escolha mais eficiente dos novos sítios nucleares do País, considerando a projeção da demanda de energia, as necessidades socioambientais e a atração de novos investimentos para viabilizar a construção das usinas.
O MME tem buscado reforçar a importância da geração termonuclear no Brasil. O Plano Nacional de Energia 2050 (PNE 2050) estima uma expansão de 8 a 10 Gigawatts na oferta de energia nuclear nos próximos 30 anos.
Além disso, como fonte de energia limpa e firme para a base das matrizes energéticas, a geração termonuclear vem ganhando cada vez mais espaço no mundo por conter o avanço do aquecimento global e seus impactos no meio ambiente.
O centro de pesquisa do CEPEL conta com a presença de pesquisadores e doutores de notório reconhecimento, além de fomentar o desenvolvimento de novos pesquisadores para o setor de energia elétrica.
